Headset Microphones
Most headset microphones are used with wireless systems and are supplied with the wireless system as a headset package. This being the headset is the same brand as the wireless system, while this is fine for most applications, many specialty headset microphones are available that can be configured to most wireless microphone systems. These each have their purpose for many special applications, such as Aerobics, Theatre, etc.
Many headset microphones are used without wireless systems and have a cable run directly to a PA amplifier or mixer. Because of the capsule size restrictions of headset microphones, nearly all are condenser or electret type that require external power to function. If you are using a wireless system the bodypack transmitter supplies this power, and some will allow powering via phantom power from a professional mixer. But for most simple applications such as bus and coach drivers a microphone with a small inline power supply is the best option.
